This week's dress up day is Friday, March 13th - "Snickers Day" - wear a funny shirt or do your hair funny! 🤣
Reminder that daylight saving happened this weekend! We sprung forward this time, so be sure to set your clocks ahead one hour to keep everyone on time for school on Monday! ⏰
📖 Everybody Reads for March 📖
To celebrate "Everybody Reads" month, we will be having dress up days throughout the month!
March 7th - Skittles "Taste the Rainbow" - wear your favorite color!
March 13th - Snickers - wear a funny shirt or do your hair funny!
March 21st - Bubble Gum - wear pink!
March 28th - Jolly Ranchers - dress like a rancher (cowboy/cowgirl)!

Come to Anne Sullivan today from 3-5:30 to register your child for kindergarten for the 2025-2026 school year! Kindergarten teachers will be here to welcome your child, get to know them, and show you the school!

💦 4th Grade at the Water Festival 💦
Our 4th grade students got to enjoy the Sioux Empire Water Festival at the University of Sioux Falls on Wednesday! They got to learn all about the water system, different forms of water, and how water impacts how we live. They had lots of fun and lots of learning!

Today fifth graders had a special guest to teach them all about nutrition! As a class they made and enjoyed a healthy corn salad!!

In the Sioux Falls School District, every student's journey is unique. For many of the kids we serve, our school social workers are there every step of the way! This year's theme, Unite to Ignite: Celebrating Our Impact, is a perfect reflection of how our social workers bring people together to create brighter futures for students.

The annual "Everybody Reads" city-wide reading challenge is beginning!!
From March 1 to the 31st! The theme is Reading is SWEET!
Mission: An initiative to encourage reading throughout the community by tracking how many books are read from March 1-31, 2025.
Goal: 350,000 books read city-wide
Donation: $1,700.00 to REACH Literacy to support literacy programming
✨At school students and teachers will be tracking all of their reading throughout the month! ✨
🏀 Special Visitors 🏀
Concordia University of St. Paul Basketball Team came to visit Anne Sullivan 4th and 5th grade students today as they prepare for the NSCI Basketball Tournament. The team talked with students about hard work, motivation, and setting goals for themselves! They also got out on playground to play with 4th grade students.
Good luck to the team as they compete in the upcoming days!

📖 Levo Volunteer Readers 📖
Today Kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms had Levo Volunteers come and read with them and to them! Students had a wonderful time getting to read with these adults and share all of their learning so far this school year!

Yesterday our 1st and 2nd grade students got to enjoy a special performance at the Washington Pavilion! A good time was had by all!:)

We are still celebrating last night's wonderful Teacher of the Year event! So many amazing educators to celebrate! Congratulations again to 2025 Teacher of the Year, Bruce Rekstad, who left with a $4,000 check, courtesy of our friends at Vern Eide. Also, a huge congratulations to the other four finalists, Jennifer Aerts, Bryan Aukerman, Scott Amundson, and Jessica Foley. New this year, thanks to the generosity of the Sioux Falls Public Schools Education Foundation, these four finalists walked away with $1,000 each. So many wonderful memories were shared last night! We are so grateful to everyone who attended, from nominees and their friends and families to past ToY winners, past educators, school board members, SDEA friends, and SFSD administrators, it truly was an unforgettable night! 📖 Reading Goal here we come! 📖
Anne Sullivan students have set a goal to get more and more students to grade level on their Lexia Reading! Every day students spend time working on their reading skills to meet their goals.
They can also work on these skills at home if you have a device! If you are looking for ways for your student to learn at home, reach out to their classroom teacher for login information!

February Focus - Leader in Me - Habit 6 - Synergize - "Work together to do better"
This habit focuses on how we can get along with and work with others, even those that are different than us. We focus on working together in order to achieve our goals and achieve more together. Through habit 6 we can set goals as a team and problem solve with different ideas in order to grow and learn more each day!
At home students can focus on working together with adults and siblings. Doing things together or sharing chores with the family in order to get more done!
Mrs. Duin is also discussing the book "The Hard Hat" with students in her morning videos. It talks about teamwork and how to be a good teammate. The book focuses on ways in which we can be a great team member in order to work together to achieve more!
Kindergarten Registration is Coming!
Is your child 5 or turning 5 and ready to start Kindergarten? Anne Sullivan will have Kindergarten registration on March 6th, 2025, from 3-5:30pm. Come, bring your child, and meet the teachers!

Looking Back - January Focus - Leader in Me - Habit 5 - Think first to understand, then to be understood!
Habit 5 helps us to listen to others and understand different perspectives or points of view. It teachers us that we can give our opinion in respectful ways but that others may have different opinions that we need to listen to and respect. Lastly, it helps students to work on effective communication skills such as speaking clearly, calmly, and using respectful words in order to get our ideas and thoughts out.
