Bring on 2nd Grade! This year our 2nd grade team expanded from four sections to five, making it our biggest grade level at Anne Sullivan. Second grade is such a fun year as students transition from using iPads to using Chromebooks. Throughout 2nd grade students will increase their independence as they expand their learning in math, reading, writing, social studies, and science.

👐🏼 Community members come to Anne Sullivan! 👐🏼
Today we had University of Sioux Falls student athletes and Sioux Falls firefighters come to school and spend time with our students! They enjoyed time in specials like art, gym, library and music, as well as time on the playground engaging in fun activities with our students!
Thank you to those that came to visit and making today special!

⭐ Anne Sullivan All Star Style ⭐
Continuing from last year, we will focus on our Anne Sullivan All Star Style skills and expectations. Within these expectations we are able to teach students what it means to Be Safe, Be Responsible, and Be Respectful both in school and out. Throughout the school year students will work on these skills within their classrooms and different areas around school. Through lessons, games, activities, and conversation, students will learn what behaviors are appropriate in different learning areas and why.
At home you can help by having conversations with your student(s) about being safe, being responsible, and being respectful. Ask them about their day, their All Star skills, and if they may have earned a Leader in Me or All Star slip! These slips help to encourage positive behaviors and interactions and enter students into a drawing to have a chance to win on Fridays.

⭐ Attendance Matters ⭐
Each school year we focus on student attendance and this school year will be the SAME!! Having our students at school each and every day is crucial to their learning and growth! Throughout the school year we will have secret pop-up celebrations for students who are at school on time and ready to learn. We will have a variety of awards for both individual students and their attendance as well as classroom attendance as a whole!!
If your student is struggling with the attendance the school will reach out and we will do all that we can to help!
Every student. Every day. Attendance Matters.

Check out our Specials Team! This team includes our Physical Education teacher, our Music teacher, our Library teacher, and our Art Teacher. In the Sioux Falls School District, all students have access to these specials classes throughout the week. We run on an ABCD day schedule so that each week students get all specials and do not miss on days we do not have school.
While these teachers work hard to incorporate academics into their classes, they also help students explore other areas such as athletics, singing, instruments, painting, 3D design, and literature.

September Focus - Leader in Me - Habit 1
Be Proactive - YOU are in charge of YOU!
This month we help students to be proactive, in their learning, in their social life, at home, and in the community. Within this skill we focus on having a "Can Do Attitude" which helps students to focus on the things they can do and can control as well as trying new things. A big part of this leadership skill is that trying new things, taking on challenges, and always trying before giving up makes us stronger and smarter.

Presenting our 5th Grade Team, Mrs. Sundermann, Mr. Koerner, Mrs. Pritchard, and Mrs. Madison! This year we will also have 2 student teachers joining us, Mrs. Wiley and Mrs. Rippentrop.
In 5th grade the student's day looks a little different as they move from teacher to teacher for different core areas of learning. Besides continuing to improve on their academic skills this is also a big grade to start preparing for middle school. After 5th grade, students will leave Anne Sullivan and go onto middle school for adventures, growth, and exploration.
From here our 5th grade students say, "goodbye to elementary school and hello to middle school." ✨

Anne Sullivan is a Leader in Me School!
We are entering our 4th year as a Leader in Me School, helping kids to build skills for a bright future, we wanted to share this with you at home.
"Leader in Me is a PK–12 evidence-based model focused on leadership, culture, and academics that equips students, educators, and families with the leadership and life skills needed to thrive in a dynamic world."
In each of our classrooms, students work on building community, perseverance, grit, proactive social skills, and a voice to advocate for themselves and their learning. Each month we will break down the skills and share them with home so that you can talk with your student(s) about these skills as well!
"Developing leaders one child at a time."

Reminder: There will be no school on Friday, August 30th, and Monday, September 2nd in observance of Labor Day! Enjoy the long holiday weekend and we will see you back in school on Tuesday, September 3rd! 👌
